pG 770 Evan H. Casey, of Dunbar & Casey, hardware merchants, was born in 1861, near Pinckneyville, Perry Co., Ill., the youngest of eight children, five living, of Hiram and Mary (Wooley) Casey, the father of Irish origin, born in Tennessee in 1813, and the mother, born a few years later in Ohio, of German stock. They were married in Mount Vernon, Ill., and soon settled in Perry County. The father was a farmer, died in 1877, and the mother died in 1865. The father was married the second time. Our subject was educated at Shurleff and Ewing College, and when twenty began as partner with Webb Bros. in dry goods. A year later he spent some time with Dr. Kelley in the drug business, and then bought the interest of Mr. Neal in their present firm. In 1881 he married Laura, daughter of W. A. and Charlotte (Harrison) King, near Ewing, where she was born in May, 1859. Their only child is Lura. He is an enterprising young merchant, and owns, besides his stock, a house and lot in Ewing. He is a Republican, and first voted for Blaine, in 1884. He is a member of Ewing Lodge, I. 0. 0. F., and of the Missionary Baptist Church. |
