Capt. Thomas Fitch

Capt. Thomas Fitch, son of Thomas and Anna (Reeve) Fitch, born 24 October 1612, Bocking, Essex Co., England, died 8 April 1704 at Norwalk, Fairfield Co., Ct., his will was dated 6 October 1696, married 1 November 1632 Bocking, England to Anna Stacey, daughter of William and Anne/Agnes (Garrold) Stacey. Freeman 1657. Clerk, Norwalk Train Band, February 1657; Ensign May 1665; Captain, Fairfield County Troop, August 1673, and February 1676. King Phillips War; Commissioner for Norwalk, 1669-87, 1689-94, and for Danbury 1686-90; Deputy for Norwalk May 1673. One of the wealthiest men in the colony. He was instrumental in bringing other members of his family to New England. Among his brothers were Rev. James of Norwich. Samuel the Hartford school master. And Captain Joseph who was first in Norwalk but later settled in Windsor.

Thomas's will dated 6 October 1696: grandson Thomas Fitch; two grandsons John and Nathaniel Fitch; daughter Ann now wife of John Thompson of Farmington; daughter Mary now wife of Captain Matthew Sherwood; son John and John's wife; son Capt. Matthew Sherwood and cousin Sergt. John Platt, overseers; mentioned his great expense in the civil wars in England, and the transportation of himself and family.

Inventory dated 14 April 1704.
John Fitch as executor engaged to give to the children of his deceased sister Burr the same amount which his other sisters had by will.
